A Call to Arms

Unless you've been hibernating for the past few weeks, you know that the Daily Fantasy Sports experience as you know it is under assault from regulators and politicians.

What's the score?

By popular request, I've added team points to the daily fantasy point recap. The final score of the game is now listed. This data appears in both the standard HTML format as well as the SCSV text format.

What's not working correctly?

I've spot-checked a number of reports this morning, and - at least on the surface - they appear to be working properly. But the devil's often in the details. So this is where all of you can help. If you find any apparent errors or glitches, please let me know.

Here is a list of the most popular reports:

Many pages provide options for text formatted output (usually SCSV delimited).

Clearing out the cobwebs

The site is getting set up for the 2015-16 NBA season, although not all features and reporting have yet been updated. I hope to have most things ready by opening day.

Meanwhile, as an early present to those of you who love to crunch data, here is a link to game by game player details for the entire 2014-15 season, including DFS salaries, points, and positions, plus summary stat lines, team point totals, and more, all in a colon-delimited text file. Have at it!

Star Power

Today I am introducing a new DFS affiliate: Star Fantasy Leagues. Although formed in 2012, this site is now fully operational and poised for growth. They cap the amount of lineups a user can enter into any single contest, deliberately keeping their contests smaller as many players are not interested in playing a 90,000 person tournament. Daily contests are now offered for NBA and NHL, and (of course) MLB and NFL contests will also be offered in-season. In addition to a variety daily contest formats, SFL offers a full season league platform for traditional fantasy players. Baseball leagues will begin forming during spring training.

For those who played NBA DFS contests at DraftStreet over the past years, Star provides an almost seamless transition, as the point formula for NBA contests is the same (see scoring formula). That also makes it convenient to integrate into the RotoGuru arsenal of analytical tools, as that scoring formula has already been tracked (in the background) all season, in spite of DraftStreet's demise. I've started picking up NBA contest salary history for Star since mid-January. So you can immediately take advantage of tools and/or reports such as Daily Fantasy Points, sortable stats, and individual player histories. If you would like to try out the site, please register using this link. You can register for free and immediately play in daily freerolls. If/when you decide to make a deposit, you can get a 20% deposit bonus using code SFL20.

There's no games like snow games

Two of today's NBA games have been postponed due to the impending storm in New York City.

Sacramento@Knicks has been rescheduled for March 3.
Portland@Nets has been rescheduled for April 6.

In-season NBA schedules and schedule-related processes at RotoGuru.com and DailyHoopsData.com have been updated to accommodate these changes.

NumberFire: How to Build the Perfect DFS Lineup

(Orig publ. date: January 13)

Our algorithms here at numberFire run a script every day that gives us the "perfect lineups" from the previous day of NBA DFS. Our own Michael Worthington built a script to compile the optimal lineups from previous days, and our DFS guru, Sam Hauss, puts it out in article form and includes all the major DFS sites. We've been doing it a little over a month now, so I wanted to take some time and analyze some trends from the data.

Triple-double double-ups

I was alerted yesterday that my point calculations for DraftKings were being incorrectly applied for players with triple-doubles. DraftKings awards points for double-doubles and triple-doubles, and I erroneously assumed that one or the other would apply, but not both. However, it seems that when a player earns the point bonus for a TD, he also earns the DD bonus. My bad.

So, I adjusted the historical DK points to reflect the proper scoring. This was done last night. So if you noticed that my listed DK point totals for some players inexplicably jumped by 1.5 (or some multiple thereof) overnight, that's the reason.
